Search & Rescue Team
Meghalaya Fire & Emergency Service has built a component comprising of trained professionals known as Search & Rescue Team, each at Shillong and Tura respectively with the approval of the Director General of Police, Meghalaya, Shillong vide L/No. FM/XX-177/07/3 Dated 16th July 2007, after being specially trained in Rock Climbing, Under Water Diving and Swimming, Tactical Rope Rescue Operations, and all other such activities which requires special skills. There is no Govt Sanction for the Posts of SRT.
The Search & Rescue Team responds to all types of Special Service Calls pertaining to Road Accidents, Drowning cases, Flash Floods, Cyclones and other natural disasters etc., conducts Search, Rescue and Evacuation in all the Districts in Eastern Range and also renders its services in Western Range whenever required and called for during any emergency. This team has been trained to handle all sophisticated equipments like Breathing Apparatus Sets, Under Water Diving Suits and Diving Equipments, Cutting Tools of all types, Rope Rescue with Climbing Ropes and Equipments, and many such vital and important rescue equipments at time of emergencies.
In case of any Special Service Calls, the place where any incident takes place or any disaster strikes, the place or the area will fall under the jurisdiction of that particular Fire Station who will act as First Responder to carry out Search, Rescue & Evacuation operation with the available force and equipments in their respective Fire Station. However, if the situation warrants and special gadgets and equipments are required to complete the operation, in that case the Search and Rescue Team along with available Search and Rescue Equipments is dispatched to the place of occurrence for reinforcement.
The Search and Rescue Team in Eastern Range is stationed at Mawlai Fire Station functioning with 14 (Fourteen) Members and the Search and Rescue Team in Western Range is stationed at Tura Fire Station with 12 (Twelve) Members .The Contact Details of the Officer In Charges of the SRT is shown below:
