Fire & Emergency Service Headquarters
The Fire & Emergency Service Organization in the Eastern Range which comprises of 26 (Twenty Six) Fire Stations and 2 (Two) Temporary Fire Camps in 7 (Seven) Districts in Khasi - Jaintia Hills Region are under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police (F&ES), Meghalaya, Shillong, assisted by one Divisional Officer (Divisional Fire Service Officer).

Role of Meghalaya Fire & Emergency Services:- The prime duty of Fire & Emergency Services Organization is to combat fire and conduct Search & Rescue Operations in case of fire. However, the role and functioning of the organization is not only limited to Fire Fighting, but have escalated to attend all types of Special Service Calls which includes Drowning Incidents, Road Accidents involving Petrol Tankers, LPG Bullets, and other highly inflammable and chemical carriers, Rescue of pet and domestic animals etc. Other Special Service Calls include Search and Rescue operation during flash flood, Landslides, and other Natural and Manmade Disasters.As such the Fire & Emergency Service Organization is considered as the First Responder in the State and therefore the role of Fire & Emergency Service Organization has now become Multi Dimensional.
Taking into consideration the rapid growth of Population and expansion of cities and towns, it has now become imperative that all the fire risk areas are well covered by the Fire Stations to render effective services during any emergency/exigencies to save the precious lives and valuable properties of the general public in an extreme professional way.
FIRE PREVENTION AND FIRE PROTECTION: In order to minimize the recurrence of outbreak of fire incidents, and to ensure that effective Fire Preventive measures are adopted and implemented, based on the advisories / directions of the Directorate General, Fire Service, Civil Defence & Home Guards, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, it has now become mandatory for all the Fire Stations to conduct regular Fire Safety Audits , Mock Drills, and Awareness Programmes in Schools, Colleges, Hospitals and Nursing Homes, Government Offices, Religious Places, Heritage Buildings, Banks, Vital Installations, Shopping Malls, Cinema Halls, High Rise Buildings, Industries/Factories etc. and also covering villages in Rural areas through out the State enforcing the provisions of Fire Prevention and Fire Protection arrangements in line with National Building Code 2016 (Part IV) to ensure that the fire incidents in the State of Meghalaya is minimized and gradually becomes a Fire Free State.
